After failure to hold elections in Punjab and KPK, tensions between federal government and Supreme Court of Pakistan are on rise. Supreme Court heard review petition of Election Commission of Pakistan on elections in Punjab and KP. Supreme Court in its order on April 4 had said that according to constitution, holding of elections in Punjab on May 14 should be made possible in any case.
A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Umar Atta Bandial and comprising Justice Ijaz-ul-Ahsan and Justice Muneeb Akhtar heard case.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz discussed today’s court proceedings with the Attorney General and the legal team and directed the AGP to remain in the Supreme Court during the hearing.

Today’s hearing
At the beginning of the hearing, on the application of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), Chief Justice Umar Atta Bandyal remarked that in the application, the election watchdog Election Commission raised fair points in the review application.
The Chief Justice further said that we will issue notices to other political parties including the provincial government of Punjab and KP.
The Chief Justice remarked that the points raised by the ECP had not been raised before. We want to hear the Election Commission on the admissibility of the application.
On which PTI’s lawyer Ali Zafar argued that the scope of the revision petition is limited and it is forbidden to introduce new points. He emphasized that the revision petition should be narrow in its focus.
Responding to this objection, the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) expressed the court’s interest in hearing the arguments of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) regarding the maintainability of the petition.
Further, the Chief Justice announced that notices would be issued to the provincial governments to submit their stand on the issue, as well as notices to the representatives of other political parties involved to submit their stand. can do
