Selling Vegetables Cheaply Becomes a Crime in Naya Punjab

The magistrate said that he learned the suspect was selling vegetables at rates cheaper than the official

In an interesting occurrence in the Naya Punjab, a vendor in Lahore was sent to jail for selling vegetables at rates cheaper than the official ones.

According to details, the special price magistrate Chaudhry Kashif Bashir filed a complaint against the vegetable vendor Waqas Majeed who was selling the commodity on Raiwind Road.

Acting on the complaint, Raiwind police registered a first information report (FIR) against the suspect and put him in the lock-up.

The FIR said that Waqas had not displayed the official rate list on a visible site.

It added that the magistrate learned the suspect was selling vegetables at rates cheaper than the official rates which was unlawful.

According to details, the retailer was selling okra in Rs 73 per kilogram (kg) instead of Rs 95, tomatoes at Rs 25 per kg instead of Rs 50, brinjal at Rs 52 per kg instead of Rs 60, and bitter gourd at Rs 52 per kg instead of Rs 90.

Later, the special magistrate took a flip when the bizarre arrest caught media’s attention. The official then said that the rates of vegetables mentioned in the FIR were wrong.

He added that Waqas was selling vegetables at exorbitant rates and it was why that an FIR was registered against him.

The social media users criticized the arrest of the vendor in Lahore who was selling vegetables cheaply and said that the administration never becomes so active against the sellers who fleece public.
