Child abuse bill
Senate Standing Committee on the interior also approved the bill regarding the public hanging of paedophiles.
Expressing concerns, the convener expressed that the child abuse cases were surging in Pakistan.
The committee had taken notice of Zainab’s rape and killing and pursued the case until the rapist was hung.
Senator Rehman Malik said that paedophiles must be made an example and punishments should be used as deterrence.
However, Senator Shahzad Waseem from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) opposed the bill and pointed out that two ordinances had already been notified by the government.
This led to a fracas between the committee chairman and Senator Shahzad.
Senator Rehman Malik said that the bills would be referred to the parliament with ordinances clubbed.
He added that the incumbent government possessed the right to oppose any bill in the house.
Senator Waseem demanded that the bill should not be approved until the quorum was complete.
He added that there should be no drama in the name of the committee meetings if the bills had to be bulldozed like this and walked out of the meeting.
