Senators recommend drug tests of students in educational institutions

Senators have recommended conducting drug tests of students in educational institutions after expressing concerns over the growing tendency to use narcotics.

The revelations were made in a session of the Senate Standing Committee on Interior chaired by Senator Mohsin Aziz.

The Senate lawmakers expressed concerns over the reports regarding a rise in the use of drugs amongst students in the educational institutions

They recommended conducting drug tests of students, however, Senator Kamran Murtaza observed drug tests could not be conducted in educational institutions without legislation.

The Senate committee issued directives to launch an anti-drug campaign in educational institutions across the country.

During the session, police officers apprised the Senate committee that 175 drug suppliers had been arrested from the surrounding areas of educational institutions and drugs recovered from their possession in the last two months.
