Is Shehbaz The Reason For Khan’s Absence From DMD Ceremony?

Previously, Imran Khan didn't attend the national security briefing in July due to opposition leader in the national assembly

Pakistan celebrated its 55th Defence and Martyrs’ Day at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi on September 6, however, it was shocking that Prime Minister Imran Khan wasn’t spotted at the ceremony and people are assuming that it was because of Shehbaz Sharif.

The ceremony was attended by President Arif Alvi, Leader of Opposition in National Assembly (NA) Shehbaz Sharif, Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani, chiefs of the three armed forces, and cabinet members.

While addressing the ceremony, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa said, “Pakistan’s armed forces will not spare any sacrifice for the security and safety of the country.”

Pakistani singer-songwriter Ali Zafar collaborated with the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) to release the song Mein Ura while several celebrities also paid tribute to the heroes on Defence Day.

Soon the ceremony went on-air, people noticed that Imran Khan was missing from the event.

Taking to her Twitter handle, journalist Amber Rahim Shamsi raised the question why PM Imran Khan did not attend the ceremony.

Responding to her, many netizens said that Imran Khan wasn’t there due to the presence of the NA opposition leader.

Interestingly, this is not the first time that the leaders of the house and opposition were caught in a controversy for not attending an event.

Back in July, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry revealed the reason behind Prime Minister Imran Khan’s absence from the national security briefing by the military leadership at the Parliament House.

During an interview, Fawad said, “The prime minister was scheduled to attend the national security meeting but Leader of the Opposition Shehbaz Sharif had conveyed to the NA Speaker that if the PM came to the briefing, he would not attend.”
