Sheikh Rasheed Becomes Interior Minister at Crunch Time
Sheikh Rasheed has repeatedly maintained in his interviews that political parties should not shut doors for reconciliation
The federal government has shuffled the federal cabinet with the most notable change being Sheikh Rasheed appointed as the interior minister. It has come out at a time when the opposition has hinted at an option of a long march to Islamabad and speculations of national dialogue are in the talk too.
As per the recent changes in the federal cabinet, Sheikh Rasheed has been given the charge of interior minister replacing Aijaz Shah.
The shuffle in one of the most significant ministries has come at a time when Sheikh Rasheed was the very first individual in the incumbent government who supported Shehbaz Sharif’s opinion of holding national dialogue.
The ex-railways minister has repeatedly maintained in his interviews on different media outlets that the political parties should not shut doors for reconciliation.
Now, he has been given an influential portfolio that controls the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT). In case of a long march, it would be Sheikh Rasheed who would be in charge of handling the protesters.
Being the interior minister, it cannot be ruled out that he is given the task to lead the talks with the opposition parties if they agree to sit on tables.
