Sindh government has overlooked the Malir dam as parts of its spillways have broken. The wreckage is lying in surroundings but it has failed to grab the attention of the authorities.

With the impending monsoon season, the rainwater will likely be wasted if the repair work of broken spillways of Malir Dam is not carried out timely.

The local farmers decried that their crops have withered owing to lack of water supply from the reservoir.

The monsoon spell in Karachi from June to August last year had filled Malir dam to the brim.

However, its dilapidated spillways were washed away due to weak embankments and the stored water went to waste.

Almost a year has passed but the Sindh government has not initiated rebuilding it.

The local farmers told News360 that the water collected in the Malir dam was channeled to tube wells and but it happens no more.

They decried that their crops have withered due to water dearth and they were facing extreme difficulties.

The farmers said that the fields have dried up and demanded the government to repair the reservoir at the earliest.
