Sindh Govt & PTI Lock Horns Over SNC Implementation

While hailing the measure, the social media users said that PTI-led government should ensure that the quality of the curriculum is maintained likewise private educational institutions

Sindh government and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government have once again locked horns and this time over the implementation of single national curriculum (SNC).

Prime Minister Imran Khan formally launched the first phase of the SNC on Monday.

The first phase of the anomalous educational project will have a uniform curriculum from class 1 to class 5.

The federal government says that a homogeneous education system would end disparity as children from all sections of society would get equal learning opportunities.

However, the policy doesn’t seem appealing to the Sindh government as the provincial Education Minister Sardar Shah categorically turned down its adoption.

He said education was a provincial subject after 18th amendment and the provinces have the right to design their own curriculums.

Shah said that SNC was a major component of PTI’s manifesto and its implementation wasn’t binding in a province ruled by PPP.

He said that the project couldn’t be called a national project without the participation of Sindh.

The minister said they would only adopt meaningful changes in science subjects but would follow their own syllabus in social studies and history.

He cited that every province has its own history, culture, and heroes while teaching Sindhi is their constitutional right.

Criticizing the casting of stones in the way of SNC, the Opposition Leader in the Sindh Assembly Haleem Adil Sheikh said that the Sindh government wants to continue the dual system for its own benefit.

While hailing the measure, the social media users said that PTI-led government should ensure that the quality of the curriculum is maintained likewise private educational institutions.
