Sindh Surprisingly Outnumbers KP in Billion Tree Tsunami Project

The afforestation program of PTI government was launched in 2014 when the party was in power in KP

Sindh has surprisingly outnumbered Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) in trees planted under Imran Khan’s flagship program 10 Billion Tree Tsunami Project.

As per a report of physical and financial progress in financial years 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 released by the climate change ministry, Sindh currently has 323.84 million trees in its designated area while KP comes second with 304.24 million trees.

The next is Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) with 106.937 trees followed by Punjab with 61.5 million trees.

Pakistan has so far planted 814.671 million trees under the 10 Billion Tree Tsunami Project in the two financial years, the report said.

 

Bakhtawar Bhutto Zardari also thanked the federal government for acknowledging the efforts of the Sindh government in restoring green cover.

The afforestation program of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government was launched in 2014 when the party was in power in KP.

It was later expanded countrywide when Imran Khan became the prime minister in 2018 and the deadline to meet the target was set as 2023.

Pakistan endeavors to plant 350,000 hectares of forest area under the initiative to abate adverse effects of climate change. Under the project, some 125,034 hectares area has been afforested until March 2021.

Earlier, Prime Minister Imran Khan had claimed that the KP government had planted more than 1 billion saplings in a short span while it would plant 9 billion more.
