Sindh Raged At Centre On Taking Control of Jinnah Hospital
The measure has been taken under section-IV of Medical Teaching Institute (MTI) Ordinance, 2020
The tiff between the federal and Sindh governments on taking control of three public hospitals gets serious as the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC), commonly known as Jinnah Hospital, will now be governed by a board instead of the provincial government.
The federal government has given control of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) or Jinnah Hospital, National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD), and National Health of Child Health (NICH) under the Board of Governors (BoGs) after seizing it from the Sindh govenrment.
The measure has been taken under section-IV of Medical Teaching Institute (MTI) Ordinance, 2020.
The board comprises of Mushtaq Kassim Chhapra, Ronaq Lakhani, Dr Muhammad Irfan Daudi, and Rashid A Khan.
According to reports, the federal government has also started mulling on names for BoG of two other public hospitals of Sindh.
However, the provincial government has criticized the measure and maintained that it is running all three healthcare facilities in the best possible manner.
The provincial government has announced to file a review petition in the apex court to retrieve control of the facility.
Sindh health ministry officials said that Supreme Court (SC) had not given pronounced its decision on the petition filed by the provincial government yet.

They added that the federal government would have to reimburse around Rs 100 billion which the Sindh government had collectively expended on all three hospitals.
Meanwhile, the former opposition leader in Sindh Assembly, PTI’s Firdous Shamim Naqvi, offered the provincial government to run all three healthcare facilities with the federal government.
He added that the center and provincial government should work together with the primary goal of serving the people with best healthcare facilities.
This is not the first instance where the center has retained control of Sindh’s public hospitals.
Last year too, the federal government had taken over JPMC but it had reverted from its decision after a few months.
