According to the report of the Meteorological Department, winds are blowing at a speed of 180 to 220 km per hour around and in the middle of the storm, while the height of the sea waves generated by the intensity of these winds is 30 to 40 feet high.
Appeal of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah
According to Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, 6,836 people out of 40,800 people have been shifted from dangerous areas to safe areas to protect them from the cyclone, while relief operations are underway to evacuate more people.
He said that the people of Thatta, Badin, and Sajawal districts are being shifted to safe places by the district administration.
Syed Murad Ali Shah said that the local people do not want to leave their homes but there is no other option but to move them to a safer place. He appealed to the citizens to cooperate with the administration.
Corps Commander Karachi emergency meeting
Corps Commander Karachi, Lt Gen Babar Iftikhar called an emergency meeting in Badin to review precautionary measures in view of the alarming forecasts of the Meteorological Department.
Several officials including Director General Rangers Sindh, General Officer Commanding Hyderabad and other officials participated in the meeting and briefed Lieutenant General Babar Iftikhar about the arrangements. Corps Commander Karachi expressed satisfaction over the preparations of the armed forces.
In the briefing, it was informed that army troops were deployed at several places to prevent the damage caused by Cyclone Buparjoy and to evacuate people from the dangerous areas.
Corps Commander Karachi said that till now the troops of Pakistan Army have reached different places for rescue, so they will not leave the people alone in any case.
According to the forecast of the Meteorological Department, heavy rains with strong winds will lash Sindh, Balochistan and coastal areas due to the cyclone. Dangerous Cyclone Biparjoy is currently located about 500 km south of Karachi, the country’s largest city.
PDMA guidelines
Powerful Cyclone Biparjoy may hit the coastal areas of Pakistan any time this week. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an alert for the residents of coastal areas in view of heavy rains. Evacuation of people from the coastlines continues as a precautionary measure.
PDMA officials say that there will be heavy stormy rains in view of the cyclone. People who have been rescued from coastal areas are not allowed to return to their home areas until permission is given by the authorities.
PDMA officials say that people should stay away from poles and other electrical devices, keep their emergency devices charged, and keep first aid boxes ready to deal with any emergency.
