The challenge of Gulab cyclone hasn’t yet started for the Sindh government as the Karachi administration cools its heels for the thunderstorm.

All private and public educational institutions and several private offices have chosen closure on Friday in view of the heavy rain forecast.

It drizzled throughout the wee hours of Friday with gusty winds but the real downpour is expected anytime in the day.

Pakistan Metrological Department (PMD) said that deep depression in the Arabian Sea is 240-kilometers (kms) away from Karachi, 200 kms from Thatta, and 410 kms from Ormara.

Until Friday morning, the Gulab cyclone has further strengthened into a cyclonic storm which will result in torrential rains in Karachi with squally winds.

PMD added the deep depression, if converted into a cyclone, will be called ‘Shaheen’, a name suggested by the World Meteorological Organization (WMM).

Karachi Administrator Murtaza Wahab has suspended holidays of employees of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC).

KMC and Sindh police have also set up machinery at Nagan Chowrangi, the area which gets most affected by rains after the construction of the Green Line Bus track, as well as in other areas.

The city’s administrator also visited the area late at night to inspect preparations.

Besides this, the provincial government has also declared a rain emergency in the megacity.
