Street Crimes in Karachi Smashed Past Records in June

The tally of crimes declined in May but after the ease in covid-19 restrictions, it rose at full tilt in June

Unbridled street crimes in Karachi this year jumped up the most in June and smashed the records of the past 5 months.

The pandemic has worsened the situation of street crimes in the metropolitan and the citizens witnessed nearly 7,000 criminal activities in the month alone.

As per details, the tally of crimes declined in May but after the ease in covid-19 restrictions, it rose at full tilt in June.

The robbers continued to strike without fright in different areas of the metropolis and police seemed at sixes and sevens.

The data shared by Citizen Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) showed a marked increase in street crimes, reaching a total of 6,995 incidents recorded in Karachi in June.

The registered cases include theft of 4,248 motorcycles, 2,155 incidents of mobile phone snatching, 443 incidents of motorcycle snatching and 20 of 4-wheelers.

On the other hand, the figures showed that the crime occurrences were down in May as compared to June.

As per the data, the percentage of armed robbery of cars increased by 54%, theft 6%, and mobile phone snatching 4% in June.

Not only this, at least 50 people were reportedly killed in different incidents while resisting armed robberies and 2 extortion cases were also reported in the same month.

Besides the aforementioned cases, the tally of daily motorcycle lifting incidents reached to 156.
