A Ph.D student was given irregular admission in the University of Karachi (UoK) on unverified documents, sources told News360. It informed that a student was given admission in M.Phil leading to Ph.D program in KU on unverified documents.
Back in 2013, Jawaid Akram got admission in M.Phil leading to Ph.D in the Federal Urdu University of Arts Sciences and Technology (FUUAST) in the Department of Environmental Studies.

Later, he was transferred from FUUAST to UoK due to some uncertain reasons and especially the retirement of his supervisor, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Afzal Chaudhary.
Many students from the department left the university or transferred to other higher educational institutions in the same fundamental relevant programs. Jawaid Akram was among them too.
However, sources added that UoK’s Advanced Studies and Research Board (ASRB) In-Charge Dr Maria and another official Amir are involved in the irregularity as they neglected main features while scrutinizing the documents.
Sources told that KU Vice-Chancellor (VC) had formed an inquiry committee after the issue of irregular admission in the program surfaced.
However, Dr Maria provided fake documents to the inquiry panel and the report was prepared on incorrect data and facts. It will be submitted in a meeting on April 30.
The report said that the admission and all procedure was validated as per record.
“At this stage, we cannot be in the position nor recommended at all to disown the student’s research work because the student has completed a lot of his research and fieldwork in the last couple of years on the same topic”, it added.
The report also claimed that documents were verified by the FUUAST through its academic Statutory Council like UoK’s ASRB.
Meanwhile, ASRB In-Charge Dr Maria refuted the allegations and said that all documents were approved by the related departments of FUASST.
But contrarily, FUASST officials said that Javed Akram did not get his documents verified, which was a requirement in getting enrolled in the M.Phil program at UoK. They added that Akram’s M.Phil registration was suspended by the varsity.
In August 2019, FUASST Graduate and Research Management Council (GRMC) warned Jawaid to approach the university to save his admission from cancellation.
The student’s seven-year enrollment tenure was completed on September 30, 2019. During this period, he did not submit fees and did not fulfill the required academic criteria. Therefore, his admission stood canceled.
