The failure of transformers has become a routine practice in densely populated areas of Sukkur district and citizens have started their repair on self-help basis.
The break-down of transformers of 50KV to 200KV in Sukkur, Rohri, and adjoining areas has become a regular occurrence.
The unscrupulous elements in Sukkur Electric Power Company (SEPCO) have given kunda connections to hundreds of households which causes failure of transformers.
The excessive load of air-conditioners (ACs) during summer season results in the failure and the bill payers have to face difficulties.

Owing to this, the densely populated areas including Royal Plaza, Ghareebabad, Sokha Talab, Regent Colony, New Pind, etc face hours without power supply in sweltering weather.
The locals of Regent Colony told News360 that they filed several complaints with the SEPCO Shalimar office for the repair of failed transformer near Jamia Masjid Ayesha Siddiqa.
They said that the company’s workers were demanding exorbitant charges from them for fixing it.
The locals whose houses are connected to the related transformer have had no electricity since the third day of Eid-ul-Azha.
The residents of Regent Colony said they collected donations to bear the cost of repair work.
The affectees have become disappointed as no action was taken against their complaints lodged on the Prime Minister Citizen Portal.
They added that SEPCO workers were involved in providing kunda connections to several houses for running ACs.
The practice is prevalent in numerous areas including Ghanta Ghar, Takkar neighborhood, Khwaja neighborhood, Shaheed Gunj, Sarafa Bazar in Sukkur and Abbasi neighborhood, Soomro neighborhood, Khadda neighborhood, etc in Rohri.
The locals claimed that SEPCO workers receive monthly from the people given kunda connections and caused a huge loss to the exchequer.
The transformers keep tripping due to undue load and the bill payers suffer because of the power pilferers, the residents of Regent Colony decried.
The locals demanded the deployment of honest officers in the affected areas along with a grand operation against power theft.
They said the unscrupulous officials must be suspended after identification.
The affectees have also called for the privatization of SEPCO to cull corrupt practices and improvement in performance.
