The Ministry of Defense received the summary from the General Headquarters (GHQ) for the appointment of the new army chief from where the summary was moved to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
The summary was moved after the head of an important institution and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif yesterday.
According to the details, the Prime Minister’s Office has received the summary of the appointment of the new Chief of Army Staff (COAS). The summary includes the names of six senior lieutenant generals of the Pakistan Army.
According to the summary received, the names of Lt. Gen. Asim Munir, Lt. Gen. Sahir Shamshad, Lt. Gen. Azhar Abbas, Lt. Gen. Nauman, Lt. Gen. Faiz Hameed and Lt. Gen. Mohammad Amir are included in the list.

PM Shahbaz Sharif will choose the next Army Chief as well as the new Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC).
Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif wrote a letter to the Ministry of Defense seeking nomination for the next Army Chief.

While talking to various media channels yesterday, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif had confirmed that a letter has been written to GHQ for the list of eligible candidates.
In his statement on Tuesday, Asif said that the entire process will take around 48 hours to complete and the reply to the letter from the ministry is expected on Tuesday or Wednesday.
Speaking on the floor of the National Assembly (NA) on Monday, the Defense Minister said that the official announcement of the key appointment is expected in the next three days.
Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed that the GHQ has sent a summary of the names of Lt. Generals to the Ministry of Defense. It added that the summary was sent for the selections of the new army chief and CJCSC.

The summary list includes the names of Lieutenant General Asim Munir, Lieutenant General Sahir Shamshad, Lieutenant General Azhar Abbas, Lieutenant General Nauman, Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed and Lieutenant General Mohammad Amir.
It should be noted that News360 had reported yesterday quoting the sources that the main purpose of Asif Ali Zardari’s meeting with PM Sharif was to convince him about the name received from the powerful circles.
Sources had told News360 that Zardari had informed the premier about the consequences if he follows the advice of Nawaz Sharif.
