Tanker Mafia in Karachi Starts Facing Music After 15 Years
The tanker mafia in Karachi was left to fleece the people of Karachi particularly the residents of posh localities for over a decade
The tanker mafia in Karachi has fleeced the locals of Karachi particularly the residents of posh localities over the years and raked in millions of rupees from them. However, the Sindh government has launched a crackdown on the mafia after it was left on the loose for 15 years.
It has been learned that around 70 percent of the water supply to Karachi is theft before it reaches the faucets.
As an offset to fill the gap, the hydrant mafia set up its pumps with alleged collusion of the administration.
A survey revealed that several water supply lines from pumping stations to areas including Nazimabad, Saddar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Tariq Road, Defence, and others were chopped to create an artificial dearth of the basic amenity.
The residents, while talking with News360, told their monthly water tanker bills exceed Rs 20,000 to get their underground water tanks filled as the lines to remain dry quite often.
“It conspicuous that they are looting people which they believe have deep pockets”, a disgruntled resident of DHA, where residents cannot even recall when they received water from supply lines, told News360.
The Sindh government has criminally remained silent over the hot-button issue despite that it has been riled over it by the Supreme Court (SC) several times.
