Traders of Karachi Refuse to Comply With Sindh Govt’s Orders
The government has restricted business hours to 6 pm but the traders say they will keep markets open until 8 pm from today
The traders of Karachi have announced to open markets until 8 pm from today onwards. Karachi Traders Action Committee (KTAC) said that the markets in the metropolis will remain open until 8 pm in defiance of the Sindh government’s orders of 6 pm.
The action committee comprises of representatives of different business and traders organizations of the metropolis.

The provincial government has restricted the business hours to 6 pm to curb the covid-19 spread.
However, the business community of the largest city of Pakistan says that they have faced enormous losses due to the restrictions amid the pandemic situation.
The action committee said that the traders were ready to fill the jails if the government wanted to put them behind the bars over violation.
They also announced that next week, the traders’ community would also decide on two-day closure of markets in a week.
The representatives also took loyalty oaths as they pledge to show allegiance to the newly-formed organization.
Rizwan Irfan has been appointed as KTAC convener while Jamil Paracha, Atiq Mir, Sharjeel Goplani, Hakeem Shah, Waqas Azeem, and Rana Raees will work as deputy conveners.
The first case of covid-19 in the country had surfaced in Karachi in February last year.
Since then, the lockdowns and pandemic situation had taken a heavy toll on business activities in the city that is Pakistan’s premier industrial and financial center.
KTAC Deputy Convener Hakeem Shah said that they had urged the Sindh government to stop the police from arrest and assault on traders and reopen marriage halls and banquets under Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
However, he added that the Sindh government did not approach them after three days have passed neither fulfilled their demands. Therefore, they will not comply with its orders.
