The rail operations in the area were suspended after the crash in Gothki.

The officials told that most of the passengers were sleeping when the crash happened. The rescue operation is underway to pull out stuck passengers.

In March this year, Karachi Expressway going to Lahore had derailed from the track near Rohri and a person died and 30 got injured in the accident.

Another similar mishap had taken place in Rohri when Pakistan Express collided with a passenger bus and 22 people died in the crash.

In November 2019, Tezgam Expressway traveling to Rawalpindi from Karachi caught fire and 74 passengers breathed their last in the incident.

The train accidents have soared since Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has assumed power.

Incumbent Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed faced a lot of criticism when multiple rail crashes and accidents occurred when he was the railways minister.

However, things haven’t changed much even when Azam Swati has taken over the ministry.
