Grace Valley Of Azad Kashmir Suffers Snowfall Aftermath

Residents have to lug patients and take them to the district headquarters hospital due to road closures

Grace Valley is the upper valley situated in the Neelum District of Azad Kashmir covering an area of 40 km. The valley has a large population and is connected to the Line of Control (LoC). Due to snowfall in winter, the ground connection of the valley is cut off.

The disconnected ground connection of the Upper Grace Valley could not be restored even after several weeks. Residents have to pick up patients and take them to the district headquarters hospital due to roads’ closure. It is impossible to bring the dead to their native places for burial.

The men and women of Grace Valley are forced to carry their belongings on their back daily. Residents have to manually pull the vehicles by hand to safer places when roadblocks occur.

The current government has promised to provide dozers to restore the Upper Grace Valley of Azad Kashmir, which are yet to be provided.

It should be noted that Shah Ghulam Qadir, an elected representative from this valley, is currently the Speaker of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly.

Women also face a lot of problems due to road blockage. There is no gynecologist available in the area for maternity and childbirth, it is next to impossible to transfer women to Muzaffarabad due to which very often women die in this condition.

For the last several days, the locals of Karimabad, Helmat, and other adjoining areas have been protesting for the restoration of on-ground movement and other facilities but no attention has been paid to solve their problems.

Locals say they will march to the AJK Legislative Assembly if their problems are not resolved.
