Vulnerabilities in Karachi’s Infrastructure in Cyclone Glimpse

At least five people were reportedly killed as a consequence of accidents while over a dozen were injured too

A glimpse of Tauktae Cyclone on Tuesday, which was supposed to hit Karachi’s coast but hit India instead, exposed vulnerable infrastructure of the megacity that was even unable to survive gusts. The natural occurrence brought some respite to the citizens who were in the grip of searing weather for the past three days.

Due to poor infrastructure, at least five people were reportedly killed as a consequence of accidents while over a dozen were injured too.

On Tuesday, the weather of Karachi suddenly flipped from sunny to overcast as a result of the changes incurred by the cyclone in the Arabian Sea.

Consequently, the metropolis experienced a gusty sandstorm that was so intense that it uprooted trees, shred baroque exteriors of buildings and caused decrepit structures to collapse.

The administrative incompetency came to the fore as famous designer Deepak Perwani shared the preparation of Clifton Cantonment Board in case if a cyclone had hit megacity.

The lack of preparation and use of tents to manage could-be disastrous condition by an administrative board that manages jurisdiction located on the edge of the sea depicts serious disinterest.
