War of Narratives in PML-N Stick Out on TV Screens

PPP Internal Rift in PML-N

Dawn

The war of narratives in Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) has reached the television screens from closed doors. The high-ups of the opposition party have taken different paths ever since PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif got out of jail.

PML-N Chief Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz have taken a bitter course against the establishment while Shahbaz Sharif likes to stick to politics of reconciliation.

The war of two opposing narratives paced up over the issue of giving room to Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) to make a comeback in the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM).

Like PML-N chief, Maryam Nawaz is also against unconditional return of PPP in the opposition alliance but Shahbaz Sharif is a bit lenient.

The war of narratives in PML-N was previously underway in meeting rooms but it has now made to the television screens.

It was visible when PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif was invited on Aaj Kamran Khan Kay Sath on Thursday.

While answering the questions, the opposition leader in the national assembly categorically said that PDM could not be reigned over by a single party.

To a question, Shahbaz said that Maryam Nawaz and Hamza Shahbaz were young and still required a lot of training in politics while the leadership role resides with their parents.

In another TV program, Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Sath, on Geo News, the senior anchorperson turned out to be a spokesperson for Maryam Nawaz and disseminated her viewpoint after voices for PPP’s return in PDM echoed from within her party.

Quoting Maryam, the host said that the political condition had improved due to the firm stance of her father Nawaz Sharif and not because of reconciliatory politics.

Shahzeb referred that she was not against dialogue but secret deals. The anchorperson quoted Maryam and endorsed that two viewpoints exist in PML-N over the return of PPP in the PDM.

Restating Maryam, Shahzeb expressed that the senior leaders want Nawaz Sharif to decide about the future leader of the party and the narrative that should be dominant.
