Waseem Akhtar exposes confusion within MQM-P after back-to-back failures

In a TV show, MQM-P central leader Waseem Akhtar exposed confusion within the political party after back-to-back failures.

Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) central leader Waseem Akhtar has exposed confusion within the political party after back-to-back failures, especially in the recent by-polls in two NA constituencies of Karachi.

Waseem Akhtar, while giving an interview to Geo News programme Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Sath, claimed, “From the first day, MQM-P vote bank is being distributed till today. He said that MQM-P has crucial seven votes having the true mandate of Karachi people but attempts are continued to divide the vote bank in the shape of hijacked elections, census, flawed delimitation and voter lists.

He alleged, “14 seats were stolen from MQM-P to give them to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).” Akhtar claimed that MQM-P had decided to be an ally of the PTI government just to get rights for the Karachiites but ‘Karachi has always faced injustice’.

MQM-P top leaders bear internal pressure after no progress on political agreement

“PTI had failed to deliver in 3.5 years and then it was decided to sign a political agreement with Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) but MQM-P regretted it as well.”

The host questioned why MQM-P not deciding to leave the government’s side. Akhtar replied, “Then, where we will go?”

Answering a question about MQM-P’s weakness to nominate Kamran Tessori for the Sindh governor’s slot, he replied what happened had just happened.

Regarding MQM-P’s worst performance in recent by-polls in Karachi, Akhtar claimed, “We are not accepting our defeat as 90% of voters did not participate in the by-polls. It is the defeat of all political parties including PTI.”

When questioned about the outrage of MQM-P voters in Karachi and failure to deliver in its stronghold, Akhtar claimed that MQM-P will be pardoned by the people. He added that MQM-P has never obtained absolute power in Karachi and he failed to deliver as Karachi mayor for that reason.

He expressed outrage that ‘MQM-P is not being given space to strengthen his political movement and cases are not being dissolved against the MQM-P leaders like other political parties nor their political offices are being reopened.”

Analysts said that Akhtar’s statements exposed extreme confusion within MQM-P as it was the political party’s complete failure to deliver its voters despite having crucial votes to retain a government in the Centre.
