How Journalists Spread Fake News in Pak-NZ Saga?

In another instance of irresponsible reporting, 2 experienced and fine journalists of Pakistan shared fake news after the New Zealand cricket team abandoned its tour.

The News Editor Investigations Ansar Abbasi took to his Twitter after the announcement and claimed that a source informed him about the British and Indian involvement in the cancellation of the tour.

“The NZ team was provided the highest level of security but our enemies succeeded in spoiling the tour to defame Pakistan”, he added.

The statement by the senior media man of a well-reputed newspaper came at an hour when the nation is expecting a tour of the English cricket team without realizing that the irresponsible statement could lead to a diplomatic blow.

On the other hand, investigative journalist of The News, Umar Cheema, blamed UK High Commission for warning New Zealand about a suicide attack in Pakistan.

The journalist alleged the UK high commission without citing the sources and later deleted the Tweet.

The allegations by the 2 reputed journalists forced British High Commissioner Christian Turner to step in and elucidate on the matter.

He maintained that the decision was taken by the New Zealand authorities independently and the speculations against the British High Commission are untrue.

“I recognize that this is a sad day for cricket fans in Pakistan & around the globe who were looking forward to the series”, he expressed.
