When will Nawaz, Maryam return to Pakistan?

Despite spending years in London and several announcements, PML-N supremo and former premier Nawaz Sharif is still reluctant to return to Pakistan.

Despite spending years in London and several announcements, Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) supremo and former premier Nawaz Sharif is still reluctant to return to Pakistan.

The PML-N leaders had earlier announced Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz’s return to Pakistan in December last year. However, the claims were proven wrong and now they are announcing his return in January but failed to unveil the exact timeframe.

The ruling political party faced humiliating defeats in by-polls and kept delaying local government (LG) polls in Islamabad. Moreover, the political party is also expected to contest by-polls after the expected dissolution of the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) assemblies but without Nawaz’s presence in the country.

Analysts questioned how PML-N will recover its past glory without the presence of the top leaders. They said despite facing internal pressure from the PML-N central leaders, Nawaz and Maryam did not give exact timeframe for their return and act as spectators of the back-to-back failures on every front.

They added that Nawaz and Maryam were seemingly waiting for an appropriate ground after some improvements in the political and economic situations in the country, however, it further deteriorated despite using all strategies by PML-N.

A few days ago, former NA speaker and Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Sardar Ayaz Sadiq claimed that Nawaz Sharif will return to the country next month and award party tickets to those aspiring to contest the polls for the Punjab Assembly seats.

Moreover, the general elections are likely to be held in October as per the ruling parties’ claims, whereas, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan is demanding fresh polls in March.
