Why Imran Khan choose not to apologise in contempt case?

The decision was taken by Imran Khan after consultation with his party's legal team.

Former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan did not submit an unconditional apology in the contempt of court case, a decision taken by Imran Khan after consultation with his party’s legal team.

Sources closer to PTI senior leadership told News360 why the Chairman Tehreek-e-Insaf did not apologise in the contempt of court case.

Senior PTI leaders including Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Asad Umar and others suggested that an unconditional apology should be offered by Imran Khan.

However, the legal experts like Babar Awan, Fawad Chaudhry, and Ali Zafar said that “if we apologise, we would be at the mercy of the court, and in the current situation, that is unlikely. It is also possible that the court will not accept the apology and you will be disqualified for contempt of court,” sources added.

They said that it is better that we keep their options open and Khan should not apologise, Sources added that even if Khan is accused of contempt of court, he can approach the Supreme Court (SC).

A contempt case of former Chief Justice Rana Shamim has also been pending for the last eight months but the chief judge was charged yet that has also encouraged PTI to choose the option of not apologising in the case.

Sources said that the same decision was made in several meetings and it was implemented, the fear was also expressed in the meeting that as soon as Imran Khan is disqualified by the Islamabad High Court (IHC), the government will announce elections, and win the election.

The court proceedings are in front of everyone but Imran Khan did not apologise.

The court has just ordered the indictment, but on the other hand, the Election Commission (ECP) postponed the by-elections in 13 constituencies, including 9 constituencies of the National Assembly (NA).
