Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) carried out a rally in Swat on Sunday against the ruling government but the absence of PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz due to restrictions by Sharif Brothers has raised many eyebrows.
The rally was considered as a fresh start of the anti-government drive as Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) aims to put extra pressure on the PTI government after Prime Minister Imran Khan gained vote of confidence from the national assembly.
The party hasn’t formally disclosed whether Shahbaz Sharif or Maryam Nawaz would lead it in absence of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and internal conflicts reflect different philosophies of the two.

The absence of Maryam Nawaz from the Swat rally, who has been politically active and vocal, has raised speculations of the widening conflict among the party’s top brass.
Sources told News360, that Maryam Nawaz was barred by Shahbaz Sharif and her father Nawaz Sharif from speaking against state institutions or officials.
After consulting his brother, Shahbaz Sharif directed Maryam Nawaz to practice soft approach towards security establishment which wasn’t appreciated by her.
Shahbaz argued that if PML-N comes into power again, how the party would go along with the military establishment.
This was another round of disputes between the uncle and niece as Shahbaz’s absence from the federal budget session made Maryam unhappy, sources told News360.
Maryam thinks that instead of giving tough time to the government on budget, her uncle Shahbaz Sharif simply vanished from the session.
