You face action for expressing love not promoting violence – the sentence embodies outcome of what happened in the University of Lahore when two students were suspended after a video of open-love-confession made rounds on the internet.

A video on the internet went viral on Friday where a female student sank to her knees and proposed to a male student. Following the nod, the couple hugged each other.

The recording of the act spread widely and rapidly and garnered diverse reception.

Both students were suspended by the University of Lahore management and they have been barred from entering institution’s premises.

Some people stood with university’s action against both students while others deemed it right but harsh.

The people supporting the episode maintained the management should not have resorted to such stern action.

They believe that expressing love was still better than promoting violence which has been part of the universities’ histories for a long time.

The critics argued there have been multiple incidents in the higher educational institutions across Pakistan where students were tortured by hoodlums within the premises and even in few cases, killed.

The social media users contended that there was Mishal Khan’s killing besides, the history of violent clashes in educational academies wasn’t hidden. The perpetrators skip action every time and the management are never so agile to take action against miscreants, they contended.

Instead, the ones who weren’t involved in such activity bear the brunt for performing a non-violent act. They are charged with committing gross misconduct.

Wasim Akram’s wife and social activist Shaniera Akram also expressed her views on the incident.

The critics believe the action by varsity conveys the impression that in Pakistan – You can face action for expressing love not promoting violence.
