We should keep an eye on Modi: Khawaja Asif

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif warned that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, under growing internal pressure, may resort to another misadventure.

Speaking on Geo News programme ‘Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Sath’, he said that Modi has lost his political capital. “He is in a state of desperation and can do anything to salvage his position.”

However, the minister said, Pakistan remains alert to any future Indian provocations. “Should India choose aggression again, we will respond — and the world will respond too,” he added.

Khawaja Asif noted that the country’s response to Indian aggression had been robust and multi-dimensional.

“This was the first conflict that included cyber warfare — and in that domain too, India’s systems were paralysed,” he said.

He further claimed that five Indian fighter jets and one UAV were downed during the hostilities. “Those who didn’t take Pakistan seriously until yesterday, now view us with respect,” Asif added.

The minister also underscored the importance of Pakistan’s diplomatic engagement during the crisis. “All our friendly nations, including the United States, were on board. It was with their consensus that we opted for a ceasefire,” he added.

Furthermore, he said, India has now, for the first time, shown willingness to talk about the long-standing Kashmir dispute. “Previously, India refused to even acknowledge Kashmir as a topic for dialogue. Their readiness to engage now is a diplomatic success for Pakistan,” he added.
