AI Can Now Detect Coronavirus By a Person’s Cough
Thousands of cough samples were used to train the machine achieve accuracy
WEB DESK: Artificial intelligence (AI) will now be able to detect novel coronavirus in as person simply through cough.
The neural network ResNet50 , an algorithm works like a human brain, along with two more neural networks to detect emotions in speech and changes in respiration were trained to achieve accuracy.
The coughing sounds of a healthy and Covid-19 infected patient are undistinguishable to the human ear but machine learning algorithm would be able to do so.
Researchers at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) took samples of thousands of coughs and spoken words to train the AI to be able to detect the difference in voices.
The machine was able to detect the virus even in asymptomatic patients and now has an accuracy of 98.5 percent.
