Apple Inc. said that its customers spent $1.8 billion buying apps on the App Store during the last week of 2020, an increase of $1,420 million compared to the same period of the previous year.
According to Apple, $1.8 billion spent on apps during the last week of 2020 reflects that the pandemic has changed the habits of many people.
Due to the lockdown, it has undoubtedly increased digital consumption considerably, be it at the level of audiovisual platforms or applications for both games and tools to work or study from home.
Apple mentioned that most of the apps bought were those that helped customers stay connected to work, school, and family.
Entertainment apps like Zoom and Disney+, as well as games like Roblox and Among Us, were some of the most downloaded apps in 2020.
The company has paid a total of $200 billion to developers, up from $155 billion a year ago.
The Cupertino, California-based technology giant said that most of the spending between Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve went to games.
New Year’s Day set a single-day spending record of $540 million on the App Store, up from $386 million in one-day in 2020.
Services have become an increasingly important component of the company’s overall revenue, exceeding the $53 billion in 2020 and representing almost 20% of Apple’s total revenue.
Apple Inc. also noted that its new Apple TV app is now available on over 1 billion screens in over 100 countries and regions.
The app was launched on many platforms such as LG, Sony, and VIZIO smart TVs, and PlayStation and Xbox consoles in 2020.
