Data of Over 500m Facebook Users Leaked For Free

Data consisting telephone numbers have been traversing hackers since the start of this year and it has been publicly displayed

The data of around 500 million users of Facebook was leaked for free by an unidentified leaker.

Reuters reported that the data consisting telephone numbers have been migrating between hackers since the start of this year and it has been publicly displayed now.

The revelation was made by Alon Gal, co-Founder of Israeli Cybercrime Intelligence Firm, Hudson Rock.

On Saturday, Alon Gal had claimed that he had cross-checked leaked phone numbers and found they were real.

This proved the leaked data was authentic and extracted from the Facebook database.

“Other journalists say they have also been able to match known phone numbers to the details in the data dump”, Reuters reported.

In response to it, Facebook said that it was scrap and was related to an issue they had fixed in 2019.

However, the tech giant did not answer why it was floating on the internet.

Still, Alon Gal warned “Facebook users should be alert to “social engineering attacks” by people who may have obtained their phone numbers or other private data in the coming months”.
