Nayatel is going to deploy new fiber networks under the partnership to serve as a backbone infrastructure for 4G/5G mobile and fixed broadband, which is a key driver of economic growth and job creation.

“Presently only 6% of Pakistan’s cell sites (telecom towers) are connected to fiber-optic as compared to 70 to 80% in the rest of the world,” said Wahaj-us-Siraj, CEO Nayatel.

“This is one of the main bottlenecks in providing quality internet service”, he added.

Wahaj also said that the cellular companies used wireless networks as backhaul instead of fiber optic because of high cost and the quality of service suffered.

On the other hand, Head of Connectivity and Access Policy, Facebook Asia Pacific, Tom Varghese said the partnership with Nayatel was part of efforts to bring fast and reliable internet connectivity to people around the world including Pakistan.
