Milestones of Fawad Chaudhry Besides EV-Policy

Many countries are supporting the use of electric vehicles in the face of rising oil prices and environmental pollution in the world

Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry has tweeted that the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has approved the electric vehicle policy.

According to him, this will bring a big change in the automotive sector in Pakistan, and instead of burning fuel, vehicles will switch to operating with electricity.

The minister said that the Electric Vehicle (EV) policy is crucial for urban cities like Lahore and Karachi as over 35% of environmental pollution in these cities is caused by the emission of smoke from vehicles.

Fawad Chaudhry said that the prices of cars in Pakistan have increased immensely over the past few years.

However, the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has approved the EV policy which will end the monopoly of car manufacturers in the country.

The policy gives some concession in tax and customs duties imposed on electric vehicles and motorcycle manufacturers.

According to the policy, by 2030, 30% of Pakistan’s vehicles will be electric-powered, for which existing CNG stations will be required to provide electric charging.

Talking about other initiatives taken by the government, Fawad Chaudhry said that three major mobile phone companies would soon start operations in Pakistan. He also announced the approval of the mobile manufacturing policy.

Under Fawad Chaudhry, the Ministry of Science and Technology has worked tirelessly for the betterment of Pakistan after assuming the office.

Whether it was promotion and shift to eco-friendly modes of transportation or production of ventilators, Chaudhry has brought a significant change in the otherwise-reliant approach.
