FIA has issued warning of SIM swap fraud across the country

Cyber Crimes Wing of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has warned public about hi-tech fraud.
Alert said that it is being brought to public’s knowledge that if they are not vigilant, entire money in their bank accounts can be withdrawn by fraudsters.
FIA’s Cyber Crimes Wing has received reports of high-tech fraud in which hundreds of bank account holders have fallen victim. It has been stated in the alert that the fraud of stealing money in people’s bank accounts by swiping mobile phone SIM has also started in Pakistan.
Fraudsters’ modus operandi is that they take the help of bank account holders’ phone networks, for which there is no signal or zero bar. Only one call is received on the user’s phone, the caller pretending to be a representative of the cellular phone company.
After receiving the call, your telephone network then starts having problems, whereupon the fake representative of the cellular company asks the user to press the digit one to restore the network.
The Cyber Crime Wing of FIA has issued instructions that in case of receiving such a call, the bank account holder or the person owning the cell phone should hang up the call instead of pressing any digit.
The alert states that if you press the number one on your phone, the network will suddenly open and then close. In this way your phone will be hacked and all the money in your bank account will be stolen in a few seconds and you will not get any alert from the bank for this.
FIA’s cybercrime wing alert said that the dangerous thing is that you will not get any instructional alert, FIA cybercrime said that Pakistanis using USSD banking and mobile banking. Always be careful.
