Pakistanis Defeated ‘MIT & Stanford’ in Global Contest

MIT Stanford Astronautics Contest

A team of Pakistanis beat the top-ranked universities including MIT and Stanford in a global contest. Team Invictus from Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology (GIKI) Pakistan has clinched 2nd position beating teams from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Stanford in Design, Build and Fly Astronautics contest. 

The competition was hosted by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA).

Several students from across the globe including renowned institutions including MIT, UC Berkeley, and Stanford participated in the competition.

The second position was clinched by GIKI students as they beat other competitors and brought the prize home.

The aim of the competition for 2021, was to build and test an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) with a towed sensor.

The participants were asked to design, fabricate and demonstrate the capabilities of the unmanned radio-controlled aircraft.

In order to prepare the design, the GIKI team utilized advance manufacturing techniques such as 3D printed parts and a pod and boom aircraft configuration.

The United States (US) Embassy Islamabad felicitated the students of GIKI for making the nation proud.

The unmanned aircraft proposed by the team was declared 1st best in Asia with a score of 85.9 and 2nd best globally.

GIKI students submitted a 60-page long proposal that containing highly technical information.

The team aims to become the face of the radio-controlled aircraft industry and promote aeronautics and aviation in the country.

After the news was shared by the US Embassy Islamabad, netizens and celebrities came along to appreciate the students for doing a tremendous job in the field of aeronautics and aviation.
