PTA Brings ‘Online Blocking System’ For Theft, Stolen Mobiles
Statistics shows that around 15,000 cases of stolen mobile phones are reported every month in Pakistan
To mitigate likelihood of data leakage after theft, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) announced the launch of Lost and Stolen Device System (LSDS), which will enable people to block their stolen and snatched mobiles online.
PTA took to its Twitter handle and explained that the new system will ease and facilitate the users to cease their mobile phones after the loss.

Moreover, a request can be filed with PTA, where blocking International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) will prevent the data from being misused.
Statistics show that around 15,000 cases of stolen mobile phones are reported every month in the country.
In addition to it, Pakistan has reported having around 180 million mobile phone users and the cases of missing mobile sets are increasing every day.
“Under the LSDS any mobile handset could be blocked within two hours with the help of an automated system.” said a senior PTA official.
The announcement said, “LSDS is an automated system and integrated with the PTA’s Device Identification, Registration and Blocking System.”
Within 24 hours of reporting after verification, the stolen mobile phone will be occluded by the system.

How LSDS works?
PTA explained that under the system, the users will have to lodge a blocking request with the PTA through its online Complaint Management System (CMS) available on the telecom sector regulator’s website.
The users can also contact PTA consumer support center to lodge a complaint.
At the same time, the complainant has to follow the same procedure through CMS for unblocking after the phone is recovered.
Following the unlocking, the user will receive a message, which will unlock the phone.
Currently, PTA’s toll-free number, Citizen Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) email address is the means for communication for blocking and unblocking the mobile devices in Karachi.
With an increase in the number of stolen and snatched mobile phones, special arrangements are made with CPLC to cater to the need.
