These Two Pakistanis Won Google Research Scholar Award

A moment of pride for Pakistan, after two professors from the University of Information Technology (UIT) Lahore bagged Google Research Scholar 2021 Award.
Dr. Mohsin Ali is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science and Dr Iza Aftab is an Assistant Professor of Economics at UIT.
Last year in March, Google introduced the Research Scholar Program.
According to the tech giant, the program aims to promote collaboration with new professors and build long-term relationships with the academic community.
Taking to the Twitter handle, Dr Iza Aftab shared the proud moment with the nation and congratulated his fellow participant Dr Mohsin, who both have won the Google research scholar award.
She wrote, “Mohsin Ali and I have won the Google Research Scholar Award and we are the only Pakistanis to have received this award.”

Many netizens came forward to cheer Pakistani professors on their achievements while some people wished them to design some great projects in the future.

Following the announcement of the research award competition, Google received research papers from computer science teachers.
These include machine learning, computer-human interaction, health research, and many more.
Dr Mohsen Ali (Principal Investigator – PI) and Dr Izza Aftab (co-PI) are doing impactful research in fields relevant to Google and are intended to help in new collaborations and encourage long-term relationships.
UIT Vice Chancellor Dr Sarfraz Khurshid said, “They were constantly focusing on solving real-life problems and the project would give them accurate data to assess economic well-being and understand urbanization in Pakistan”.
