World Wide Web (WWW) has been a globally renowned information system since its inception and now after more than 3 decades, the inventor Tim Berners-Lee will auction the original edition of the source code.
The bidding process will be conducted at the world’s largest broker Sotheby’s as part of a non-fungible token (NFT) and an amount of $1,000 is decided as the opening bid.
NFT is a unique digital certificate that states who owns a photo, video, or other forms of digital media, and indicates the potential in selling virtual objects.

Lee was born in London and after becoming a computer scientist, he invented the web in 1989 that enables millions of internet users to create and share information anywhere in the world round the clock.
Using Apple’s NeXT computer, the web was designed in Objective C programming language in the early phase.

The highest bidder will get a digitally signed Ethereum blockchain NFT, the original copy of source code, animated visualization of the code, a letter written by Berners-Lee, and a digital poster of the full code.
The bidder will also get possession of original time-stamped file comprised of 9,555 lines of code including URIs (Uniform Resource Identifiers), HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol), and HTML (Hypertext Markup Language), along with its implementations in three different languages and protocols.
Sotheby’s Global Science and Popular Culture Head, Cassandra Hatton said, “Sir Tim’s invention created a new world, democratizing the sharing of information, creating new ways of thinking and interacting, and staying connected globally”.
