Mobile Phone Camera Devoured Photography Industry

Studio owners who quit the photography industry in a timely manner and started other own business have become financially stable today, while those who did not change are still suffering from a severe financial crisis

SUKKAR: The advent of mobile phone cameras has led to a crisis in the photography industry over the years.

The small camera has become reason for the photo studio owners and thousands of photographers to end their businesses and lose jobs.

Studio owners who quit the photography industry in a timely manner and started another business have become financially stable today.

While those who did not change are still suffering from a severe financial crisis.

Naveed Pirzada, a professional photographer working at a studio on Frere Road Sukkur, told News360 that their demand has decreased since the advent of smartphones.“After ten or twenty years in this profession, we are not able to learn a new job at this age, nor do we have the capital to start any other business,” he said.

Another photographer, Nadeem Karim said that Mobile phone camera has affected their work immensely.

“Previously people were approaching them for modeling but nowadays, they take pictures with their own cell phone cameras

And don’t even think to come to us”, he added.“Except this, no one comes to our studios to take pictures for passports, identity cards, driving licenses, exam forms and admit cards.

This is because government agencies including NADRA, SSP and DC Offices have installed their own systems.

Large studios in Sukkur are closing down due to the crisis, only few studios can be seen but they are also at verge of collapse.

However, some of them were lucky and successful because they made a timely decision and changed their business after realizing the gravity of the situation.One of them is Malik Nadeem, the owner of Sukkur’s largest photo studio Karim Photographers, who is happy with his booming Limka and food business.

“I invested all my savings in food business when I realized that his photography business is dwindling,

it was big risk for me because I have never been in food industry before but the timely decision helped me to establish a new path of my life”, he added.

“I believe that Success is achieved through prayer and timely switching”.

Gone were the days, when Frere Road, Barrage Road and Clock Tower were the hubs of photography studios in Sukkur,

Where today only handful of photographers can be seen.

Who are nowadays anxiously waiting for people to come and order for services.
