After the power seizure by the Taliban, the evolving security condition and clouds of uncertainty have blurred the future of Afghan cricket.

Afghanistan has to visit Pakistan in September to play 3 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and the formalities between both cricket boards had been already discussed.

In August, the situation in Afghanistan rapidly altered and the Taliban ascended to the throne as President Ashraf Ghani and other government officials slunk off the country and now there is a huge question mark on the future of the sport.

International Cricket Council (ICC) has also announced the schedule of the T20 World Cup in the UAE in October.

The first fixture of Afghanistan is scheduled for October 25 but there are fears whether the team will get the green signal from the new regime to participate in the mega event.

The general perception is that the militia does not entertain sports.

However, the Afghan Cricket Board (ACB) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Hamid Shinwari is hopeful that the sport will not suffer as a consequence of political change.

Instead, he said that the Taliban support cricket and love the game.

According to the media reports, Muhammad Suhail Shaheen, the Taliban spokesperson in the Qatar office, also clarified that Afghan cricket would not suffer despite the change in political structure.
