Obscene gesture: Ben Cutting reignites old feud with Sohail Tanvir in PSL 7

PZ player Ben Cutting reignited an old feud with QG Sohail Tanvir after they exchanged obscene middle finger gesture during PSL 7 match.

Australian all-rounder and Peshawar Zalmi’s player Ben Cutting has reignited a four-year-old feud with Pakistani pacer and Quetta Gladiators’ Sohail Tanvir after they exchanged obscene middle-finger gestures during a match of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 7.

Ben Cutting had obviously not forgotten to take revenge from Sohail Tanvir during his face off against the pacer last night once again after 2018. PZ’s Cutting smashed four consecutive sixes to Tanvir in a crucial stage of the PSL 7 match when his team needed a big over for building a strong target against QZ.

Cutting hammered three consecutive sixes in Tanvir’s over on the opening three balls and then he smashed the fourth maximum on the fifth ball.

The Australian batter scored 27 off 19th over. Peshawar Zalmi had won the match by 24 runs, with the Gladiators 8-161 in pursuit of 7-185.

The batter later exchanged some words with Tanvir to which the bowler responded after coming near Cutting. The duo was stopped after the on-field umpire’s intervention.

Ben Cutting Sohail Tanvir PSL 7 middle finger gesture feud

After a few minutes of play, Tanvir paid back the middle figure gesture with both hands to Cutting in the next over after he was caught out by him in Naseem Shah’s over.

The whole episode has had a history.

Feud started in 2018

In 2018, Tanvir had shown the middle finger to Cutting during a match in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

Guyana Amazon Warriors fast bowler Sohail Tanvir had been fined 15% of his match fee for making a middle-finger gesture during his team’s home game against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in 2018. Tanvir had accepted the sanction handed to him by match referee Denavon Hayles, according to ESPNcricinfo.

The incident occurred during the 17th over of the Patriots innings, when Tanvir dismissed Australian Ben Cutting with a yorker that crashed into the middle stump. As Cutting began walking back, Tanvir showed him a double-middle finger, with Cutting’s back turned to him. One ball before the dismissal, Tanvir had been dispatched for a six over long-on by Cutting.

Tanvir finished his spell with 1 for 24 in four overs, which was instrumental in restricting the Patriots to 146 for 5, before the Warriors ran down the target in 16.3 overs, with six wickets in hand. Tanvir was the highest wicket-taker in the previous season, and was subsequently retained by the Warriors, for the maximum price of US$160,000.
