Withdrawal of 10,000 Volunteers Won’t Hurt Tokyo Olympics
Tokyo 2020 CEO Toshiro Muto reported that out of 80,000 volunteers, 10,000 of them have withdrawn due to covid-19
Before the start of much-anticipated Tokyo Olympics within 50 days, the organizers have revealed an alarming update regarding volunteers who have happily withdrawal their contracts of becoming part of the upcoming event.
Out of 80,000 volunteers, 10,000 of them have canceled their membership due to the spread of coronavirus, reported Tokyo 2020 CEO Toshiro Muto.
Apart from the coronavirus concerns, some of the volunteers quit after the Games were postponed in the past while the rest did it in protest against sexist comments.

Previously, the former Tokyo 2020 Chief Yoshiro Mori had stated that ‘women talk too much and waste time in meetings’.
Addressing the concerns, Tokyo 2020 President Seiko Hashimoto assured that the Games will be held per schedule unless the situation worsens or a strict ban on international travel is imposed.
Talking to Nikkan Sports daily, Tokyo 2020 president said, “But conversely, unless such a situation emerges, the Games will not be canceled”.
The 2020 Games had been delayed by a year due to lack of public support and resistance from the Japanese government as Tokyo was in an emergency state.

So far, only 2-3% of the total population of Japan has been administered the covid vaccine, and 80% of the Olympic Village’s athletes and residents will soon be entertained.
To guard the potential crisis of covid, the Japanese government has issued orders to vaccinate people in Tokyo, Osaka, and seven other districts.
The organizing committee president Seiko Hashimoto assured that the health of the athletes will be prioritized at the event.
They added that the withdrawal of 10,000 unpaid volunteers is not going to impact the schedule.
Instead, they will be able to save millions of dollars reserved for volunteers for their uniforms, meals, and daily conveyance.
