Was ‘Million Pounds Offer’ to Boxer Waseem a Media Stunt?

Muhammad Waseem claimed he was offered million of pounds for fixing WBC Silver Belt title match against India in 2016

Pakistani professional boxer, Muhammad Waseem, revealed in a video that officials from neighboring country had offered million pounds for fixing his World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver Belt title match in 2016 against India. 

Waseem, who was challenged for International Boxing Federation (IBF) Flyweight title in 2018, has been nicknamed ‘Falcon’ for his quick and swift style of boxing. The 33-year-old boxer is two times WBC flyweight silver champion.

The national hero recalled an event that happened in 2016 when he won the title of WBC Silver Belt against India. Waseem said he was offered millions of pounds for fixing the match.

Waseem added that being a patriotic Pakistani player, he turned down the offer for fixing the match against neighboring country. The boxer was once again approached by bookies to reconsider the offer.

Waseem said, “As a true Pakistani player, I will always turn down match-fixing offers.”

Moreover, senior sports journalist Abdul Majid Bhatti questioned why only Pakistani players received match-fixing offers worth millions of dollars from bookmakers.

He added that none of the players have ever produced any kind of evidence of the offers they received from unidentified men.

Bhatti referred Waseem’s claims and added that without any evidence or credibility, players have been seen making statements that will assist them to remain in the limelight.
