The female athletes have decided to call the shots on sexualization and they are redefining the years old standards set for the outfits women should wear while playing different sports. 

The beach handball team of Norway was fined over $1,700 for violating the dress code as the players donned shorts instead of bikini bottoms at a match in the European Championship.

The European Handball Federation (EHF) said the shorts were not in accordance with the uniform regulations for the sport.

The handball team made the statement when Norway was competing against Spain in the bronze-medal game in Bulgaria.

The Norwegian team isn’t the first one to defy sexualization in sports and disseminate the message of prioritizing athleticism and skills over anything else.

The German women’s gymnastics team donned full suits in the qualification round of the Tokyo Olympics on Sunday.

Earlier this year, German gymnasts Sarah Voss and her two teammates wore full-body suits at the European Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Switzerland as well.
