Two rival nations were waiting for the final round of the javelin throw competition at the Tokyo Olympics and Arshad Nadeem from Pakistan and Neeraj Chopra from India were in the spotlight of the medal race.

Among the 12 contestants, Nadeem qualified himself for the top 8 players after covering 84.62 meters as his best throw, giving a tough time to Chopra. However, the Pakistani thrower couldn’t succeed in the final round.

In the previous round that led him to the final, Arshad’s power-packed throw was greatly appreciated by Pakistanis and it raised hopes of a medal back home as the remaining compatriots couldn’t qualify for the next round in their respective categories.

Today, he has the last chance to get his hands on the title in the javelin throw event and Arshad will be eyeball to eyeball against India’s Neeraj Chopra and Germany’s Johannes Vetter.

In this regard, his family back in Pakistan is already preparing to celebrate his victory.

In the first round, Arshad’s throw was overall third-best in the contest after Indian and German counterparts.

Arshad, 24, is the last among 10 athletes representing Pakistan at the Tokyo Olympics.

In his first attempt, Arshad reached the 78.5m mark but in the next round, his throw of 85.16m led him to the finals.

Neeraj and Arshad had been competing with each other since the 2016 Asian Junior Athletics Championships.

With the ongoing hype of the match, Twitter users from India and Pakistan are supporting their respective players and hoping their country will get a medal.
