WEB DESK: Football star Lionel Messi celebrated his powerful strike from outside the box to cap the comfortable victory by taking off Barcelona’s blue-and-burgundy top to bare the red-and-black of Maradona’s shirt from his stint at Newells Old Boys.

Messi then blew a kiss with both hands to the sky as he looked up.

Lionel Messi had kept his head bowed during the minute of silence before kickoff at the empty Camp Nou for Maradona, who died of a heart attack on Wednesday at age 60. Maradona played for Barcelona from 1982-84.

After the game, Messi posted a photo of his tribute alongside an older image of Maradona in the same shirt, adding the message “Farewell, Diego” in Spanish.

Earlier this month, Diego Maradona was treated for a blood clot in his brain, after which he was resting at home.

The former midfielder and manager of Buenos Aires suffered a heart attack at his home on November 25.

Maradona is considered as one of the greatest players in the history of football. Born in Buenos Aires in 1960, the player made his international debut in 1977.
