A South Korean national playing in the English Premier League for Tottenham Hotspur was racially abused by fans of Manchester United post-match against the spirit of FIFA’s anti-racism motto. Tottenham star Son Heung-min was the only scorer as his side lost 3-1 to Manchester United on Sunday.
A tweet shared by Tottenham’s official Twitter handle and a post by Son Heung-min’s Instagram account received racial comments by Manchester United fans in violation of FIFA’s ‘Say No To Racism’ promo.
Tottenham Hotspur released an official statement from its Twitter handle to back the player and condemn the racial slurs he received in the Instagram comments and private DMs.
Another matchday and more abhorrent racial abuse suffered by one of our players. This has again been reported to the platforms and we shall now undertake a full review alongside the Premier League to determine the most effective action moving forward.

As BBC reported, Twitter said, “committed to Kick It Out’s initiative to tackle online hate, and look forward to continuing these discussions and developing solutions with our partners in football”.
Instagram said it took action against 6.6 million pieces of hate speech between October and December last year.
