Former English footballer Michael Owen got elected as the ambassador of the Pakistan Football League (PFL) and he pledged to uplift the standards of the sports.

Michael Owen was an English former footballer who had played as a striker for Liverpool, Real Madrid, Manchester United, and many other renowned teams.

The son of former footballer Terry Owen was always highly acclaimed due to his unmatchable skills in the football field.

He started his career at the age of 18 and his goal against Argentina in the 1998 World Cup in France was voted one of the greatest ever England goals.

Taking to his Twitter handle, the newly-appointed PFL ambassador shared a message for his Pakistani fans.

“I’m delighted to announce that I’m the new Pakistan Football League (The PFL) Ambassador and I hope to be visiting Pakistan soon! Hope you all are ready! Football Hoga!”, he wrote.

In the video message, Michael Owen said franchise-based football league is a step in the right direction for the development of football in the country.

Speaking with sports journalist Faizan Lakhani, the former Liverpool legend said the country must have a league, professional players, and something that the fans are going to get behind.
