Multan Sultans has a new captain, Islamabad United will be eyeing to retain the title and Quetta Gladiators is going to rely on a young side

The start of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 6 is around the corner as here is a brief overview of three teams that would be contesting to win the title.

Multan Sultans

Multan Sultan will come strongly under the new captain Muhammad Rizwan who has replaced Shan Masood.

The team was knocked out of PSL 5 in the group stage. They could not beat Karachi Kings or Lahore Qalandars in the playoffs.

The team has retained key T20 players including Rilee Rossouw, Sohail Tanvir, Imran Tahir, and Shahid Afridi.

Multan Sultan is the only team among all which has not reached the tournament final yet.

Strengths

The inclusion of three leg spinners including Afridi, Usman Qadir, and Imran Tahir.

Weaknesses

The lost batting form of Khusdil Shah.

Pressure on Chris Lynn to continue his Australian Big Bash League (BBL) record.

The team has no prominent power hitter.

Islamabad United

The team won the inaugural PSL in 2016 and with a year’s gap in 2018.

PSL 5 remained disastrous for the team as it finished on the bottom.

Strengths

Alex Hales has returned to the site, currently one of most in-form batsmen in T20.

Hasan Ali and Faheem Ashraf have shown their heroics against South Africa.

Weaknesses

The exclusion of Colin Munro and Dawid Malan from the team.

Captain Shadab Khan remained completely off the field during the past two months due to a thigh injury.

Quetta Gladiators

It would be not wrong to say that Gladiators are the youngest team in the tournament as nine of its players are below 23.

This year, the team has brought in Chris Gayle and Dale Steyn to inject some experience in batting and bowling departments.

Strengths

The team has power-hitters like Banton, Gayle, Delport, and Azam Khan.

The spin all-rounders including Ben Cutting and Muhammad Nawaz.

Weaknesses

Naseem Shah and Azam Khan haven’t shown their best yet.

The team will miss Shane Watson and Jason Roy in the batting line-up.
